Core Loop
Empires: Age of Discovery allows you revisit the age of exploration and discovery in the 16th century. You will take on the role of a European power establishing new colonies and trade in the New World. Over three ages, you will launch expeditions of discovery, expand your merchant fleet and military force, train your workers, construct buildings that give your nation interesting and distinct advantages, develop your economy, and (if necessary) declare war - always with the goal of expanding your empire farther than your opponents.
Note: Empires: Age of Discovery is a reimplementation of Age of Empires III but without that name due to the expense of renewing the license from Microsoft.

Why It Is Fun
Fun read needs player-voice synthesis.
Player-voice evidence:
- Great production, great worker placement game with territory control. Feels different from other games i have played in the genre. Not to long not to short, just the sweet spot. Tension all the way to the end.
- Unusual and original mechanisms make this stand out. The theme also works. Packing all and sundry onto ships then sending them off to plunder and perish in the new world really works. Push your luck, negotiate, threaten, cry, scheme and...
- Classic. Love the variations of the worker type. Highly interactive the game play so smoothly. Beautiful game.
- Some balancing is needed, and I’m glad my group has played it many times to do this. I do like that you really want to do so many things, but they all get blocked up. Also, why is the box so big. It could have been 2/3 the size it is.
- Good Game. There are many things going on. There are also many ways to win. The first game there is learning curve to work out. Once you learn the mechanics it can go quite quickly (as long as other players know the rules - it is my...
Friction and Failure Modes
- Treat Sonnet-memory edge rules as draft until confirmed by manual, BGA, or transcript.
- Needs at least one stronger rules authority before final extraction use.
Translation and Design Hooks
- Use this card to ask: which primitive carries the fun if theme/licensing is removed?
- For iOS, look for short-session compression, clear state visualization, and a digital-only twist.
- For new tabletop design, look for the tension source and decide whether to preserve or invert it.

Legacy — v2 primitives
Pre-v4 terse primitives. Will be superseded once this game enters the v4 wide pass.
Assign specialists to actions, ship colonists to claim New World regions, score area majority across three ages.
